The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
If the dealer has diagnosed a vehicle as needing one or both cylinder head gaskets replaced follow the recommendations below.
Important: If the suspect area of the head gasket is leaking coolant externally and is located at the front end of either cylinder head verify that the leak is not coming from the gaskets located between the coolant crossover manifold and the front of the cylinder heads If the leak is found to be either of those gaskets, see TSB # 7-06-02-006. DO NOT call the number listed below if the source of the leak is either of the coolant crossover manifold gaskets.
Engineering is currently looking for vehicles in the "Metro Detroit" (Southeast Michigan) area that have been diagnosed as needing one or both cylinder head gaskets replaced. Dealers in the "Metro Detroit" area that have a vehicle that requires a head gasket(s) be replaced should contact Jim Kelly at (586) 492-5612 before performing any disassembly. He will assist in making arrangements for Engineering to review the vehicle at your Metro Detroit area location.
Important: Engineering is only interested in engines where the cylinder head bolts have NOT been loosened or disturbed. If the cylinder head bolts have already been loosened or disturbed, then do NOT contact Jim Kelly. Proceed with your repairs as normal.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
