Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 864099 Size: SH
  1. Cut the replacement rocker panel section in corresponding locations to fit the original panel. The sectioning joint should be trimmed to allow 1.5 time the metal thickness at the sectioning joint.

  2. Object Number: 864103 Size: SH
  3. Create a 100 mm (4 in) backing plate (A) from the unused portion (B) of the service part. Trim the backing plate as necessary to fit behind the sectioning joint where there is no reinforcement.

  4. Object Number: 864104 Size: SH
  5. Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) plug weld holes along the sectioning cut on the remaining original part. Locate these holes 25 mm (1 in) from the edge and spaced 40 mm (1 1/2 in) apart.

  6. Object Number: 864106 Size: SH

Important: If the location of the original plug weld holes can not be determined, or if structural weld-thru adhesive is present, space the plug weld holes every 40 mm (1 ½ in) apart.

  7. Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) plug weld holes in the service part as necessary in the locations noted from the original panel and along the sectioning cut.

  8. Object Number: 864107 Size: SH
  9. Prepare all mating surfaces as necessary.
  10. Apply 3M® Weld-Thru coating P/N 05916 or equivalent to all mating surfaces
  11. Fit the backing plate halfway into the sectioning joint, clamp and plug weld to the vehicle.

  12. Object Number: 864110 Size: SH
  13. Position the rocker panel.

  14. Object Number: 864114 Size: SH
  15. Plug weld accordingly.
  16. Important: To create a solid weld with minimum heat distortion make 25 mm (1 in) stitch welds along the seam with 25 mm (1 in) gaps between them. Then go back and complete the stitch weld.

  17. Stitch the weld sectioning joint.
  18. Clean and prepare all welded surfaces.
  19. Install the lower quarter panel. Refer to Quarter Panel Replacement - Lower .
  20. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in Paint and Coatings.
  21. Paint and repair the area. Refer to Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems in Paint and Coatings.
  22. Install all related panels and components.
  23. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
