with Power Sliding Door-Right (RPO E58) and/or Power Sliding Door-Left (RPO E59)
Vehicles Located in Michigan, Georgia or Florida

Attention: Proceed with this bulletin ONLY if the customer has commented about this concern AND the EI number is listed in GMVIS. If the customer has not commented about this condition or the EI does not show in GMVIS, disregard the bulletin and proceed with diagnostics found in published service information. THIS IS NOT A RECALL -- refer to Service Bulletin 04-00-89-053A for more detail on the use of Engineering Information bulletins.


Condition

Important:  If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this issue, do not proceed with this bulletin.

Some customers may comment on increased effort when opening the power sliding door.

Cause

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of this condition. GM has a need to obtain technical information from the dealer technician during diagnosis and PRIOR to repair. As a result, this information will be used by engineering to help root-cause the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix.

Correction

Important:  This bulletin applies to vehicles located in Michigan, Georgia and Florida only. All others should continue to diagnose and repair according to information found in SI.

During diagnosis of the customer's concern, document the following information on the repair order:

  1. Describe the customer's concern -- be specific.
  2. When comparing door function to a like vehicle:
  3. • Are there any unusual noises? If so describe.
    • Is the door slow to open?
    • Does the door close completely?
    • Describe overall performance of power door operation compared to the like vehicle.
  4. Remove the door trim panel:
  5. • Are the rollers loose or off track?
    • Is the cable bound or does it have too much slack?
    • Are any of the components damaged or broken?
  6. Note if any debris is found in the track.
  7. Contact the appropriate engineer based on the vehicle's location. Engineering will provide additional information for correcting the customer's concern.
