Convertible Top Material Will Not Seat Properly Behind Driver or Passenger Window (Replace Spring)

Some customers may comment that the convertible top material will not seat properly behind the driver or passenger window.

A convertible top cable spring (refer to arrow in illustration above for spring location) may have been over-stretched.

1. Partially remove the "B" pillar weatherstrip by removing the top screw and then pulling the weatherstrip out of the run channel down to the base of the pillar.



2. Remove the "B" pillar run channel.



3. Pull the convertible top material out of the lower corner.



4. Remove the nut that holds the pin in the bottom of the "B" pillar. This will allow the top material to be pulled rearward in the following steps.



5. Remove the strap and the lower drain.



6. Remove the two fasteners from the top.



7. Pull the top off the two studs and pull it upward to release tension on the top.



8. Remove the two screws and the rubber grommet surrounding the striker.
9. Pull the outer layer of the convertible top off the striker and the arm of the convertible top mechanism.



10. Remove the outer layer of the convertible top. This will expose a rivet holding the inner convertible top material.



11. Remove the rivet and slide the inner layer of convertible top material off the arm of the convertible top mechanism.
12. Peel the foam off the spring and bend the end of the spring to remove it from the arm and cable.
13. Remove the spring from the new cable assembly and install it in place of the old one. Make sure the end of the spring is bent back and that the foam is back in place.
14. Reinstall the top in reverse order. The rivet (3 mm x 12 mm [1/8 in x 1/2 in]) that was removed in Step 11 may be purchased locally.
