Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to
Starter Motor Replacement.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Install the
J 43653 (1) to the engine block, in order to hold the flywheel.
- Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and washer. Discard the bolt.
- Remove the balancer using a universal removal tool.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Ensure both components are aligned correctly or serious engine damage will occur.
- Install the crankshaft balancer onto the crankshaft indexing keyway. Use care to properly align the keyway and the flats on the balancer with the oil pump drive.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the crankshaft balancer using a universal balancer installer.
Note: Always install a NEW crankshaft balancer bolt and washer.
- Install a NEW crankshaft balancer bolt and washer. Prevent the crankshaft from rotating when tightening the bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft) plus an additional 125 degrees using the
J 45059 .
- Remove the
J 43653 (1) from the engine block.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the starter motor. Refer to
Starter Motor Replacement.
- Install the engine drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement.
