Actions

DEFINITION: A mild to severe ping, usually worse under acceleration. It sounds like popcorn popping.

    • Low coolant
    • Loose drive belt
    • Restricted air flow through radiator, or restricted air flow through condenser (if A/C equipped)
    • Proper cooling fan operation
    • Front air dam missing or damaged

Check for overheating problems.

Knock Sensor Circuit System

Check knock sensor circuit system for no spark retard during the knock condition

Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)

Check TCC operation (A/T only).

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)

Check EGR operation.

Fuel
  1. Remove carbon with top engine cleaner.
  2. Check for poor fuel quality, proper octane rating.

    3. Fuel with higher octane ratings may eliminate the problem.
