Subject: | Service Information on Bolt Torque Retention Compound for Brake Caliper Support Bracket to Steering Knuckle Bolt |
Models: | 1991-1997 Saturns |
This bulletin contains information and a service procedure for installing caliper support bracket to steering knuckle bolts. The torque retention compound used on the brake caliper support bracket to steering knuckle bolts has been revised. Whenever these bolts are removed during service, they should be replaced using new second design bolts (P/N 21011110). These new second design bolts contain a revised pre-applied torque retention compound. If the new second design bolts are not available, the previously installed bolts (first of second design) may be cleaned, recoated with a torque retention compound, and reinstalled.
Refer to the following installation procedure for both the new second design and previously installed first and/or second design bolts.
If installing new second design bolts with pre-applied torque retention compound, proceed to step 4.
Important: Bolt threads must be cleaned thoroughly prior to applying new torque retention compound.
Important: Do not over apply torque retention compound. Excess compound could be forced off the bolt threads and between the support bracket and steering knuckle during installation.
