CORRECTION TO THE RETAILER INSTALLED FRONT END COVER

SUBJECT: Correction to the Retailer Installed Front End Cover Installation Instructions Procedure for Front End Cover Sleeve Attachment

MODELS AFFECTED: 1997 Saturn SC2 Coupes

PURPOSE: The retailer installed front end cover installation instructions for the 1997 Saturn SC2 Coupes shows incorrect attachment points for the front end cover hood sleeve attachment to the underside of the hood. When installing the Retailer Installed front end cover, refer to the following information for the correct location for installing the "S" hook on the front end cover hood sleeve attachment strap to the hood inner panel.

The retailer installed front end cover installation instructions show the "S" hooks on the front end cover hood sleeve attachment straps going into the rear center holes in the hood inner panel, after removing two hood retainers.

To correctly install the "S" hooks on the front end cover hood sleeve attachment straps, install the "S" hooks into the forward center holes of the hood inner panel as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE: Failure to install the "S" hooks on the front end cover hood sleeve attachment strap in the correct holes in the hood inner panel, could cause the attachment strap to wear prematurely due to the straps rubbing against the cam cover on manual transaxle vehicles.

If the hood sleeve hooks have been installed in the rear center holes, and the straps have been damaged due to wear against the cam cover, replace the complete front end cover.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
