The battery is an electrochemcial device which converts energy into electrical energy. The battery also:

    • Supplies electrical energy to accessories when the engine is not running.
    • Supplies electrical energy to the starter motor and ignition system to start the engine.
    • Maintains electrical energy to accessories when the electrical load intermittently exceeds generator output.
    • Stabilizes electrical system voltage.

Fusible Link

The fusible link is a one-time protection device that melts to create an open if the circuit is over amperage. The link is usually four wire-gage sizes smaller, even though it appears larger than the circuit cable it protects. The wiring between the starter assembly and generator contains a fusible link.
