Removal Procedure

Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

    Object Number: 866679 Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  3. Notice: The outer drive axle joint has a speed sensor ring. Be careful not to damage this ring when performing service operations near knuckle and drive axle. Never pry against the speed sensor ring. Even minor scratching of speed sensor ring may result in a loss of ABS operation.

  4. Remove the wheel speed sensor to steering knuckle TORX™ head bolt.
  5. Notice: Be careful not to enlarge the locating hole in knuckle when drilling out the pin. Incorrect sensor location could occur and result in a loss of ABS operation.

Important: The front wheel speed sensor has a locating pin which may become stuck in the knuckle due to corrosion. The pin may separate from the sensor during sensor removal and remain in the knuckle. If this happens, and the pin cannot be pulled out, it must be drilled out using an 8 mm drill bit.

  6. Remove the wheel speed sensor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the wheel speed sensor into the steering knuckle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

Important: Check to be sure that the sensor is fully seated against the knuckle. It may be necessary to clean corrosion or another obstruction from the locating pin hole.

  3. Install the wheel speed sensor fastener.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the wheel speed sensor fastener to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  6. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
