Removal Procedure

The rear wheel speed sensor is contained within the hub/bearing assembly. The sensor is not serviceable seperately. To replace a damaged rear wheel speed sensor, the entire rear hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.

Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Remove the road wheel corresponding to the the hub being replaced.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ABS wheel speed sensor.

  4. Object Number: 861439  Size: SH
  5. Remove the drum from the hub.
  6. Remove the 4 hub to knuckle bolts.
  7. Remove the hub/bearing assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Join the hub, brake shield, and knuckle with 4 fasteners. Torque to specification.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the rear wheel hub assembly to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  3. Install the brake drum.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the ABS wheel speed sensor.
  5. Notice: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors/drums. Failure to do so can cause wheel nuts to loosen in service.

    Important: Be sure that the electrical connector is fully seated and the latch is engaged.

  6. Position the wheel onto the hub.
  7. Install the wheel nuts and tighten in a crisscross pattern. Repeat the tightening pattern to make sure the torque is correct.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel nut to 140 N·m (103 lb ft).

  9. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
