Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 865479  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR System. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in the SIR section.
  2. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly.

  3. Object Number: 863180  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect control cable assembly from control lever assembly.
  5. Carefully press two retaining tabs and remove control cable assembly from converter housing.

  6. Object Number: 863177  Size: SH
  7. Remove console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  8. Place shifter in 2nd gear and disconnect control cable end from control base assembly lever.
  9. Depress two tabs on control cable housing and remove control cable assembly from control base assembly.

  10. Object Number: 865802  Size: SH

    Important: Carpet is held together by hook-and-loop fasteners.

  11. Separate carpeting at front of dash under control cable assembly.
  12. Remove the retainers, on both sides of the cable pass-through opening, holding the sound deadening material.
  13. Roll back the sound deadening material at the front of dash to gain access to the cable pass through grommet.

    Notice: There is an extra retaining tab on the passenger side of the cable pass-through grommet (indicated by the thin arrow). Removing the grommet passenger side first may cause damage to the floor pan.

  15. Place a large flat blade screwdriver against the driver's side of the cable pass through grommet as shown.
  16. Push the grommet toward the passenger side of the vehicle and outward to disengage the grommet from the floor pan (as indicated by heavy arrow).

    Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  18. Lift vehicle.
  19. Important: When removing and installing control cables it is helpful to have a second person inside the vehicle to guide the cables and prevent them from being tangled.

  20. Remove the control cable and cable pass-through grommet from the outside of the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 864972  Size: SH

    Important: All service replacement control cables will have the bolt-in type pass through grommet.

  1. Guide control cable assembly through cable pass-through hole in floor pan.
  2. Insert the cable pass-through grommet into the cable pass-through hole in the floor pan, engaging the passenger side of the grommet first. Snap the driver's side of the grommet into place by pressing inward and toward the passenger side of the vehicle.
  3. Tighten grommet nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten Shifter Cable Pass-Through Grommet Nuts to 7 N·m (62 lb in)

  5. Lower vehicle.

  7. Connect control cable end to control base assembly.
  8. Install control cable housing to control base assembly.
  9. Replace sound deadening material and re-secure to front of dash.
  10. Replace carpeting.
  11. Install console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

  12. Object Number: 863180  Size: SH
  13. Install control cable into converter housing. Make sure both tabs snap into housing.
  14. Connect control cable to control lever.

  15. Object Number: 865479  Size: SH
  16. Install air cleaner and duct assembly.
  17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in the SIR section.
