Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 862315  Size: SH

    Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  2. Loosen intermediate steering shaft cover from steering gear and move up enough to access intermediate steering shaft/pinion pinch bolt.
  3. Remove pinch bolt.
  4. Lower vehicle on hoist.

  6. Remove clamp bolt at lower steering column/intermediate steering shaft joint.
  7. Remove intermediate steering shaft from inside vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 860852  Size: SH

    Important: Use Loctite 242® (or equivalent) on threads of pinch bolt.

  1. From inside vehicle, position intermediate steering shaft onto steering column and install pinch bolt.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten Intermediate Steering Shaft-to-Column Pinch Bolt 47 N·m (35 lbs ft).

    Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  4. Important: Use Loctite 242® (or equivalent) on threads of pinch bolt.

  5. Position intermediate steering shaft onto pinion and install pinch bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten Intermediate Steering Shaft-to-Steering Gear Pinch Bolt 47 N·m (35 lbs ft).

  7. Slide cover over intermediate steering shaft and attach securely to steering gear.
  8. Lower vehicle from hoist.
