Before inserting a CD, press the EJ (eject) button to make sure that a CD is not already in the player. With ignition on and the radio either on or off, insert a CD, label side up, part way into the slot. The player will pull the CD in and begin to play the CD even if the radio was off.
While your vehicle is on, the CD symbol will be present on the display whenever a CD is present in the CD player. While the CD is playing, the CD symbol will be present on the display along with an indication of which track is being played.
If the radio is off when you install a CD into the CD player, the player will return to the power off state when you eject the CD.
If the radio is off when you install the CD into the CD player and you had pressed the AM/FM button while you were playing the CD, then the last played radio station will be played again when you eject the CD.
Press the EJ button which is located next to the In-Dash CD insertion spot to eject the CD from the In-Dash Player. You can eject a CD regardless of whether the ignition is on or off.
If you eject a CD, then (before removing it from the player) decide you would still like to play it, press the CD/TP button. The CD player will pull the CD back into the player and begin to play.
If you eject the CD, but you do not remove the CD from the player within 15 seconds, the player will automatically pull the CD back in.

Several conditions will cause errors preventing proper CD operation. These include loading a CD upside down, moisture on the CD, a dirty or damaged CD. Moisture on the focusing mechanism internal to the player may also cause an error. When using your CD player, if the radio detects an error, it will let you know by either ejecting the CD or by temporarily displaying Err. If an error message appears on your display, please check the probable cause of the error to correct the problem. Following is a list of possible problems, along with the probable causes and solutions.
If the following solutions do not correct the problem, you may have a CD player failure. See your Saturn retailer or authorized service provider for service.
First check to see if you are inserting the CD upside down. It should be inserted with the label facing upward. Reinstall the CD label side up. If the CD still ejects when it is installed label side up, you could have a warped or cracked CD. Check the CD for problems. Avoid using any cracked or deformed CDs.
Your CD may be scratched, dirty, or have pinholes. Clean the CD. Refer to Cleaning a Compact Disc.
Once the CD is cleaned, check both sides of it for scratches, dirt, or pinholes. If the CD is damaged or scratched, avoid using it.
It could be the result of condensation inside the CD player. The moisture must be dried up before the CD player will operate. Turning on your Saturn climate control system may help speed up this process. It may take an hour before the CD player will operate again. (Condensation occurs for the same reason that eyeglasses fog up when someone walks from the cold outside weather to a warm room during the winter.)
Check the road conditions. Skipping can result from momentary vibration from a snowy or rough road, or from the joints on a highway. If the road is fine, check your CD for dirt, scratches or pinholes.
Your repeat function may be on. Turn off the repeat function by pressing the RPT button (Station Frequency Present Button 6).
Check to see if a CD is stuck in the CD player.
Your CD player was designed to be compatible with round digital audio CDs with the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" label. Other CDs may be incompatible, causing a no-play condition, "ERR" shown on the radio display or a jam in the loading mechanism.
Some incompatible CD types are:
• | Special-shaped CDs (any that are not round) |
• | Re-writeable CDs (CD-RW type are incompatible) |
• | Library CDs (with thick bar-coded labels) |
