| • | Loading a CD Magazine into the CD Changer: Insert the CD magazine with arrow pointing toward the arrow on the CD changer. Close the door on the CD changer by sliding it all the way forward. The changer will then begin checking the CDs in the CD magazine (lasts approximately 20 seconds depending on the number of CDs loaded). |
| During this time, the CD changer symbol on the radio display will blink. If a CD has been loaded incorrectly, it could take up to 60 seconds to check all of the CDs. |
| It is important to keep the CD changer door and armrest closed whenever possible to prevent dirt, dust, or debris from getting inside. |
| • | Removing a CD Magazine from the CD Changer: To eject the magazine, slide the CD changer door rearward until it locks with a click. Press the CD changer eject button. |
CD Changer Control Button
The radio preset buttons (1-6), along with the REW/FF and SEEK/SCAN/DISC buttons, change functionality when in the CD changer mode.
PRV (Previous): To move to the beginning of the current track, press the PREV button (Station Frequency Preset Button 1). If you press the PREV button more than once or hold the button down, the CD changer will continue to move back through the tracks on the CD. When the first track on the CD is reached, pressing the PREV button again will back the CD to the last track on the same CD.NEXT: To move to the next track, press the NEXT button (Station Frequency Preset Button 2). If you press the NEXT button more than once or hold the button down, the CD changer will continue to move forward through the tracks on the CD. When you reach the last track on the CD, press the NEXT button again, and the first track on the same CD will be played.
RDM (Random): To hear the tracks on the CD(s) loaded into the CD changer in a random rather than a sequential order, press RDM button (Station Frequency Preset Button 5). After pressing the RDM button, the CD changer will immediately stop playing the current selection and advance to the first random selection. To skip a selection chosen by the random play feature, press the NEXT button. To repeat a selection only one time, press the NEXT button. To repeat a selection only one time, press the PREV button. To turn off random play mode, press the RDM button again. While using the random feature, "RDM" will be present on the display. The CD changer remembers which tracks have been played during random selection so that all the tracks on all the CDs in the magazine will be played one time before the tracks are played a second time. If you press the RPT button while in the random mode, the player will keep repeating the track until you cancel the RPT function.
RPT (Repeat): To turn the repeat track feature on and off, press RPT button (Station Frequency Preset Button 6). When the repeat track feature is on, the letters "RPT" will be displayed on the display. The current track will keep repeating until you cancel the repeat feature by pressing the RPT button again.
REW/FF (Rewind/Fast Forward): Rewind Function: To quickly rewind within a track, press and hold the REW side of the REW/FF rocker button. You will hear sound at a reduced volume and the display will show elasped track time. Release the REW button to resume play. Fast Forward Function: To quickly advance within a track, press the FF side of the REW/FF rocker button. You will hear sound at a reduced volume and the display will show elapsed track time. Release the FF button, to resume play.
DISC Button: To move to the previous CD, press the DISC button. If you press the down arrow side of the DISC button more than once or hold the button down, the CD changer will continue to move back through the CDs in the CD changer. When the first CD in the CD changer is reached, press the DISC button again, and the last CD in the CD changer will be played.
DISC Button: To move to the next CD, press the DISC button. If you press the up arrow side of the DISC button more than once or hold the button down, the CD changer will continue to move forward through the CDs in the CD changer. When the last CD in the changer is reached, press the DISC button again, and the first CD in the changer will be played.
(Eject): To eject the CD changer magazine from the CD changer, press the eject button found on the CD changer. You can eject the CD changer magazine regardless of whether the ignition is on or off. Note: You will see the CD changer symbol blink when the CD changer is changing the CD that it is playing.
Error Messages, Probable Cause, and Solutions
Several conditions will cause errors preventing proper CD operation. These include loading a CD upside down, moisture on the CD or in the CD changer, damaged CDs or improper loading or unloading of a CD. In random play mode, the "bad" CD is ignored as if no CD is in that slot.
When using your CD changer, if the radio detects an error, it will let you know by temporarily displaying "Err". If an error message appears on your display, please check the probable cause of the error to correct the problem. Following is a list of possible problems, along with the probable causes and solutions.
If the following solutions do not correct the problem, you may have a radio or CD changer failure. See your Saturn retailer or authorized service provider for service.
If the entire CD is skips and the next higher available CD is automatically selected:
First verify that a CD is inserted correctly (label side up) in that particular slot of the magazine. If you load more than one CD into the magazine, but one of the CDs is loaded upside down, the upside down CD will not be played. The next higher available properly loaded CD will be automatically selected by the system. If a CD is loaded improperly, reinstall the CD into the magazine label side up.
If the CD was loaded correctly, check the CD for dirt, scratches, pinholes, or if the CD is warped or cracked. If the CD needs to be cleaned, see Cleaning a Compact Disc. If moisture is detected on the CD, let the CD dry and try to play it again. Avoid using cracked or deformed CDs.
Verify that the random play function is not active. If it is active, "RDM" will be displayed on the radio display.
If you are using a 3 inch (8 cm) disc, check to see if the CD has been installed on the adapter properly. If the CD was loaded correctly, check the CD for dirt, scratches, or pinholes. If the CD need to be cleaned, see Cleaning a Compact Disc instructions. If the disc is warped or cracked, avoid using the CD. Make sure that the 3 inch (8 cm) adapter do not have broken hooks.
If the CD changer does not initialize, the radio display show "Err" and the radio switches to the previous mode of operation:
Verify that the CD(s) are inserted label side up. If all of the CDs in the magazine are loaded improperly (label side down), attempts to play the CD(s) in the CD changer will result in "Err" being temporarily displayed and the system will return to the previous mode of operation. The CD changer symbol will then go out and it will appear that no CDs are in the CD changer magazine.
If the CD(s) are loaded correctly (label side up) and the CD changer still won't play the CD(s), check the CD(s) for dirt, scratches, or pinholes. If the CD needs to be cleaned, please see Cleaning a Compact Disc. Also check for moisture present in the CD changer.
CDs not appropriate to use:
Your CD player was designed to be compatible with round digital audio CDs with the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" label. Other CDs may be incompatible, causing a no-play condition, "ERR" shown on the radio display or a jam in the loading mechanism.
Some incompatible CD types are:
| • | Special-shaped CDs (any that are not round) |
| • | Re-writeable CDs (CD-RW type are incompatible) |
| • | Library CDs (with thick bar-coded labels) |
If the CD Mutes Periodically:
Check the road conditions. Muting can result from momentary vibration from a snowy or rough road, or from the joints on a highway. If the road is fine, check your CD for dirt, scratches or pinholes. If the CD needs to be cleaned, see Cleaning a Compact Disc instructions.
If a track on a CD is skipped:
Check the CD for dirt, scratches or pinholes. If the CD needs to be cleaned, see Cleaning a Compact Disc instructions. Also check if the CD is warped or cracked. Avoid using cracked or deformed discs.
If the same selection is played repeatedly:
Your repeat function may be on. Turn off the repeat function by pressing the RPT button (Station Frequency Present Button 6).
