The light goes on when you turn your key to "RUN." It goes off once you start your engine. That's just a check to be sure the light works. If it doesn't, be sure to have it fixed so it will be there to warn you if something goes wrong.
When this light comes on and stays on or flashes on and off when braking, it means oil isn't going through your engine properly. You could have low oil level, low oil pressure, or you might have some other engine problem. Proceed to the nearest retailer or have your vehicle towed in for service.
Be sure to check your every oil every time yo get fuel. To get an accurate reading, make sure your vehicle is on level ground.
Caution: Do not keep driving if the oil pressure is low. The engine can become so hot that it catches fire. Someone could be burned. Check the oil as soon as possible and have the vehicle serviced.
Notice: Lack of proper engine oil maintenance can damage the engine. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. Always follow the maintenance schedule in this manual for changing engine oil.
