Testing Procedure

SA9141E Coolant Tester Adaptor

    Caution: Do not remove the cap from a hot system. Allow the system to cool, then slowly remove the cap.

  1. Remove the cap from the coolant surge tank.
  2. Make sure that all parts of the cap, tester, and adapter are clean.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Wet the rubber gasket of the cap with water and install SA9141E on the cap.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rubber gasket to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  6. Hold the tester with the SA9141E hanging straight down.
  7. Caution: Protect yourself by wearing safety glasses, earplugs, a respirator, gloves, and safety shoes while performing work on the vehicle.

    Caution: Never pump the pressure cap above 103.4 kPa (20 psi).

  8. Pump the tester, watch the pressure gage, and read the maximum pressure before the relief valve opens. Stop pumping. The cap is rated at 103.1 kPa (15 psi).
  9. Cap opening pressure: 86-117 kPa (13-17 psi)

    Vacuum relief setting: 6.9 kPa (1 psi) below atmospheric pressure

  10. Watch the needle for 30 seconds to see if it falls. The needle should not fall below 68.1 kPa (10 psi).
