Accelerator Pedal, Shaft, and Bracket Assembly Replacement LHD

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 870988 Size: SH

    Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  1. Raise the vehicle.
  2. Remove the bracket assembly attaching nuts and discard.

    3. Object Number: 870989 Size: SH

    Important:  To prevent leaks, the bracket assembly attaching nuts must be replaced whenever they are removed.

  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Disconnect the accelerator control cable from the accelerator pedal assembly.
  5. Release the cruise control cable from the accelerator pedal assembly when applicable.

    6. Important:  The accelerator pedal and lever assembly are serviced as a unit.

  6. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the bracket assembly onto the dash panel.
  2. Attach the accelerator control cable to the accelerator pedal.
  3. Attach the cruise control cable to the accelerator pedal assembly when applicable.

    4. Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  4. Raise the vehicle.

    5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the new bracket assembly attaching nuts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the accelerator bracket assembly-to-front of dash nuts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Check the accelerator control assembly for binding.

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 873419 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the accelerator control cable from the accelerator pedal assembly.
  2. Release the cruise control rod from the accelerator pedal assembly when applicable.
  3. Remove the single nut from the accelerator pedal and remove the pedal assembly. Discard the nut. Do not reuse.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 873440 Size: SH

    Important:  The accelerator pedal and lever assembly are serviced as a unit.

  1. Install the accelerator pedal assembly to the steering column support bracket using a new, prevailing torque nut.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the accelerator pedal assembly-to-support bracket nut to 8 N·m (70 lb in).

  2. Attach the accelerator control cable to the accelerator pedal.
  3. Attach the cruise control rod to the accelerator pedal assembly when applicable. The cruise control rod will require adjustment. Refer to Cruise Control Module Rod Adjustment .
  4. Check the accelerator control assembly for binding.
