Tools Required

Important: Do not confuse the intermediate axle shaft seal procedure with transaxle seal procedure. The seals look identical, but they are different.

1. Remove the right drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .




Notice: If unable to remove seal from housing with axle seal puller, it may be necessary to pry off the seal. Take care not to damage the seal housing.

2. Use the SA9133T to remove the seal from the intermediate axle shaft housing.
3. Discard the seal once removed.

1. Inspect the intermediate axle shaft housing for damage. Replace as necessary.
2. Ensure that the intermediate shaft housing and seal interface area are clean.
3. Install the J 44809 . Place the seal on the tool and insert it into the axle shaft housing. Ensure to keep the seal lined up with the axle shaft housing bore during installation and that the seal is fully seated.




Notice: If grease is not applied to inner lip of axle seal, seal noise or damage may occur.

4. Apply axle seal grease to the axle bearing and the inner lip of the axle seal.



5. Install the right drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
