J-44228-A Axle Shaft Deflector Ring Installer
Notice: The axle shaft deflector ring is designed to aid the transaxle seal from dirt and water intrusion. Deflector rings are installed on left and intermediate axle shafts, and rotate around the third lip of the transaxle seals. Improperly installed deflector rings may cause premature failure of transaxle seals, deflector rings, and axle shafts. Special tools J44280-1 and J44280-2 are required to properly install the deflector rings.
Important: If an axle shaft deflector ring is removed, a new deflector ring must be installed. Do not re-use axle shaft deflector rings that have been previously installed. If an axle shaft deflector ring is damaged, it should be replaced. Do not attempt to repair damaged deflector rings.
Notice: Do not damage the smooth portion of the axle shaft assembly. The transaxle seal rides upon the smooth portion. If damaged, a leak can occur.
Important: Ensure to notice which direction the deflector ring is installed. The cupped end of the deflector ring should face towards the transaxle seal.
Important: The deflector ring must be fully seated against the tri-pot housing. If not fully seated, the deflector ring may cause premature failure to the transaxle seal.
