This can be measured with the use of a universal measuring system capable of dimensioning the length, width and height of a datum plane simultaneously. Three dimensional distances are used for both underbody and upperbody measuring.

X = Fore and aft measurements along the center line of the vehicle. An "O" plane is located forward of the master gage hole at the front of the vehicle 2048 mm as shown. All measurements are made from this plane toward the rear of the vehicle.

Y = Cross car dimensions positive values are measured from the center of the vehicle to the right side of the vehicle. Negative values are measured from the center of the vehicle to the left side. When values are not listed separately to change "hand" on the vehicle, you only need to change the "Y" dimensions to the opposite value "-" or "+" from what is listed.

Z = Vertical measurement from the datum plane that is 368 mm below the rocker panel lower flange edge ("0" plane.)

All dimensions are semetrical unless otherwise noted.

For proper repair of the spaceframe it is necessary to restore the vehicle to these XYZ dimensions to which we build the vehicle to in the fixtures at the manufacturing plant. Relational (linear) dimensions are for reference only. They may be used for diagnosing or checking only. Relational dimensions do not afford the accuracy that XYZ dimensions and measuring systems have.

The gage holes shown, highlighted in heavy lines, are the actual fixturing locations that are used to build the vehicle in the plant. When the vehicle is damaged to the point where less than three of these locations are in place, it would be wise to very accurately assess damage to determine if the vehicle is actually economically repairable.

  2. Apply a permanent underbody sealant.
  3. Important: Ensure that proper corrosion protection processes are used on all repair areas.

  4. Prime with a 2-part catalyzed primer.
  5. Apply sealers and corrosion protection materials according to the information in the Body Paint section of this service manual or the paint manufacturer's recommendations.

Cradle Assembly

Object Number: 874214 Size: MF

Notice: Repair of the cradle could result in damage to the vehicle or degrade the performance and/or safety of the vehicle after the repair.

The engine cradle assembly is non-repairable. Any damage to the cradle will make it necessary to replace it with a new Saturn service replacement part.
