Important: Follow all label directions and Product Information Bulletins for specific safety and application procedures for each product.

This procedure should be used any time the OEM clear coat is sanding through on existing panels. A separate procedure has been provided for the preparation of replacement parts.

  1. Wash the entire area with warm water and mild detergent.
  2. Thoroughly rinse the repair area with clean, fresh, warm water and dry off.
  3. Important: It is important to wipe the cleaner dry with a clean dry cloth BEFORE it evaporates.

  4. Wash the repair area with PPG D837 Acrylic Clean™ or equivalent to remove all surface contaminants that were not removed by the soap and water.
  5. Sand out the defect with 220 grade sandpaper.
  6. Feather the leading edge of the repair area with 320 grade or finer sandpaper. In this step a sand scratch should be established to extend a few inches beyond the repair. Compound the undamaged portion of the panel.
  7. Wash the new part thoroughly with soap and water.
  8. Wash the entire panel with D837 Acrylic Clean™ or equivalent.
  9. Apply 1-2 coats of D860 or D859 Deltron® Waterborne Primer or equivalent, and allow to dry properly.
  10. Block sand with 400 grade or finer sandpaper.
  11. Wash the entire panel with D837 Acrylic Clean™ or equivalent.
  12. Complete the repair using the BC paint system or equivalent spot repair as refinish procedure.
