If any door is open and the key is in the ignition when an interior door lock switch is activated, the BCM will unlock the driver and/or passenger door(s) after the door lock switch is released.
The anti-lockout feature can be overridden by an RKE lock request, a manual lock, or by the door key cylinder.
When a lock command is received from the transmitter, the BCM provides battery voltage through circuit 195 to the LOCK relay in the instrument panel fuse block (IPFB). The LOCK relay coil, grounded by circuit 550, energizes and causes the relay contacts to close. When the relay contacts close, battery voltage is provided through the LOCKS fuse, through the relay, and out of the IPFB to each of the door lock motors. The driver door lock motor is grounded in the BCM through circuit 694. The other door lock motors are grounded through the UNLOCK relay circuit 550.
The Saturn Security System is automatically enabled when the LOCK button is pressed on the transmitter. The LOCK button can be pressed a second time for a horn chirp confirmation. If the LOCK button is pressed and any of the doors or the trunk are open, the horn will sound 3 long horn chirps.
When the Saturn Security System is activated, the horn will chirp for 10 seconds (Pre-alarm). Following this 10 second pre-alarm warning, the horn will cycle at 1 Hz for 250 ms, the daytime running lamps (DRL) and the dome lamp will flash (full alarm). The DRL lamp or dome lamp will not flash during the 10 second pre-alarm. Full-alarm will continue until any button is pressed on the transmitter, or 2 minutes have passed, whichever occurs first.
The lock operation of the driver's and passenger's door switches is the same as when operated by the transmitter, except battery voltage is provided to the switches through the body fuse.
When an unlock command is received from the transmitter, the body control module provides battery voltage through circuit 694 to the driver door lock motor. The motor is grounded by circuit 295 going through the LOCK relay in the IPFB to ground through circuit 550.
The Saturn Security System is disabled when the UNLOCK button is pressed. If the horn chirp mode is enabled, the horn will chirp twice for confirmation that the Saturn Security System is disarmed.
When a second unlock command is received from the transmitter within 5 seconds of the first unlock command, the remote keyless entry module provides battery voltage through circuit 194 to the UNLOCK relay in the IPFB. The UNLOCK relay coil, grounded by circuit 550, energizes and causes the relay contacts to close. When the relay contacts close, battery voltage is provided through the LOCKS fuse, through the relay, and out of the IPFB to each of the door lock motors (in opposite direction of LOCK), except the driver's door lock motor. The door lock motors are grounded through the LOCK relay by the IPFB ground circuitĀ 550.
The unlock operation of the driver's and passenger's door switches, excluding the driver's door unlock, is the same as when operated by the transmitter, except battery voltage is provided by either switch to the UNLOCK relay instead of by the remote keyless entry module. The driver's door unlock signal is detected by the body control module, through circuit 194. The remote keyless entry module provides battery voltage to the driver's door lock motor (in opposite direction of LOCK).
The circuit description for the decklid and liftgate is explained on the facing pages of chart 8 and chart 9.
The circuit description of the dome lamp is explained in the Lighting section of this service manual.
The circuit description of the horn is explained in the Horn section of this service manual.
The following RKE features can be programmed into the BCM. The retailer is able to program these features using the Scan tool.
Programmable Feature | Function Programmed at the Factory | Re-Programmed Function |
---|---|---|
RFA Audible Unlock Feedback | The horn does not chirp with the unlock command from key fob. | The horn chirps twice with the first unlock command from key fob. |
RFA Audible Lock Feedback | The horn chirps once with the second lock command from key fob, if received within 5 seconds of the first command, OR the horn will chirp three times to signify a delayed locking situation. | The horn does not chirp with the second lock command from key fob OR during a delayed locking situation. |
RFA Delayed Lock | The lock command from the key fob is delayed until all doors and trunk are closed. | All doors lock when the command from the key fob is received, even if a door(s) or trunk is open. |
RFA Visual Feedback | The daytime running lamps (DRLs) flash once with the lock command from key fob and upon closing all doors and trunk during a delayed locking situation. | The DRLs do not flash with the lock command from key fob. |
Passive Alarm Arming | The system is not enabled. | The system arms automatically when the ignition key is removed and all doors and trunk are closed for 60 seconds OR 10 minutes after the ignition key is removed, but no doors are opened and closed. Passive Arming Mode Does Not Lock Doors Automatically. |
Pre-Alarm Chirp | The horn will chirp for 10 seconds before going into full alarm state if a door or the trunk is opened after the system is armed. | The horn will stay silent for 10 seconds before going into full alarm state if a door or the trunk is opened after the system is armed. |
HVAC Afterblow | This feature is not enabled. | The HVAC blower fan will turn on about 30 minutes after the vehicle is turned off to remove moisture which may have condensed on the HVAC ducts. |
