Procedure for Removal of Wagon Rear Wiper Arm When Held Onto Wiper Motor Shaft by Corrosion

Cannot remove rear wiper arm due to corrosion between wiper arm and wiper motor shaft.

Corrosion forms on end of wiper motor shaft.

Remove and replace wiper arm according to the following procedure.

1. Hold wiper arm away from glass and , using a small flat blade screwdriver, disengage wiper are retaining latch, leaving arm resting on latch.

•	If wiper arm down not pull straight off, continue with step 2.

•	If wiper arm does not pull straight off, no additional repair to wiper are is necessary. Complete original repair and reinstall wiper arm.

2. Place protective tape on liftgate surrounding the wiper motor and arm.
3. Using a 5 mm (13/64) in) drill bit, drill into wiper arm were it covers end of wiper motor shaft.

Drill only through wiper arm.

4. Cut the tip off of a size # 14x1 inch sheet metal screw.



5. Start the screw into the hole in the wiper arm.
6. Make sure the wiper arm retaining latch is still disengaged, then turn the screw until the wiper arm pops free of the per motor.

1. Clean debris from wiper motor shaft.
2. Spread anti-seize compound (Saturn P/N 21485279 or equivalent) on base of wiper motor where it connects to arm.
3. Install new wiper arm (P/N 21058229) to wiper motor shaft positioning the wiper arm just below the first rear defroster grid at the bottom of the liftgate glass.
4. Push retaining latch inward to secure wiper arm to wiper motor shaft.
5. Remove protective tape from liftgate glass.
