Rear Compartment Lid Key Cylinder Misaligned

The rear compartment lid key cylinder is low or off center, when viewed from the rear outside of the vehicle.

The cylinder was installed low or off center.

Align the rear compartment lid key cylinder using the following procedure.

1. Raise the rear compartment lid.

Important: Care should be taken when removing components from the rear compartment lid key lock cylinder. Dropped components could easily become trapped inside of the rear compartment lid and if not removed, could result in rattles.

2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid key cylinder lock rod.
3. Remove the Hiccup retainer at the rear of the rear compartment lid key cylinder and remove the pawl.




Important: Do not use too much force in bending the key cylinder mounting area.

4. Center the rear compartment lid key cylinder within the opening of the rear compartment lid outer lower panel by positioning a 21 mm socket with an extension over the back of the key cylinder housing. Align the rear compartment lid key cylinder to the opening by slightly bending the key cylinder mounting area.



5. If a gap of the key cylinder to the rear compartment lid outer lower panel results, remove the rear compartment lid key cylinder retainer and lightly tap the metal around the perimeter of the key cylinder rearward, until the gap is closed.

Important: Use a flat-nosed starting punch wrapped with vinyl electrical tape to avoid damaging the ELPO corrosion coating.

6. Once the gap is removed, install the rear compartment lid key cylinder retainer, pawl and E-clip retainer.
7. Install the rear compartment lid key cylinder lock rod.
