CONDITION: The transaxle hops out of 5th gear or there is no 5th gear or the transaxle is stuck in 5th gear. These conditions may be intermittent.
CAUSE: These conditions may be caused by a 5th/Reverse actuator retainer clip or 5th shift fork retainer clip that has been damaged or has become disconnected from the shift shaft.
CORRECTION: When diagnosing an intermittent hop out of 5th gear or no 5th gear or stuck in 5th gear condition, refer to the following procedures.
PROCEDURE: 1. Test drive the vehicle to verify condition.
2. If condition is verified, refer to "5th/Reverse Actuator Retainer Clip" procedure in this bulletin.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
