Notice: The TP sensor and IAC valve must NOT come in contact with solvent or cleaner, as they may be damaged.

  • The throttle bore and valve deposits may be cleaned on-vehicle, using carburetor cleaner (Saturn P/N 21007432) and a shop towel. Follow instructions on container. Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, an extremely strong solvent which is not necessary for this type of deposit.

  • Remove and clean the idle air control (IAC) valve O-ring sealing surface, pintle valve seat and air passage, if necessary.
  •    - Use carburetor cleaner and a parts cleaning brush to remove carbon deposits. Follow instructions on container. Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, an extremely strong solvent, which is not necessary for this type of deposit.
       - Shiny spots on the pintle or seat are normal and do not indicate misalignment or a bent pintle shaft.
       - If air passage has heavy deposits, remove throttle body for complete cleaning.

    Important: If installing a new IAC valve, be sure to replace with an identical part. IAC valve pintle shape and diameter are designed for the specific application.

  • Inspect the IAC valve O-ring for cuts, cracks or distortion. Replace if damaged.
