For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Apply RTV sealer GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent to the rear bearing retainer sealing surfaces.
  2. Install the rear bearing retainer bolts to the rear case.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the four-wheel drive indicator switch to the front case half.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the switch to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the speed sensor and the bolt to the rear bearing retainer.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Install the following components to the rear output shaft:
  9. 5.1. The rear output yoke
    5.2. The rubber sealing washer
    5.3. The flat washer
    5.4. The rear output yoke nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 170 N·m (125 lb ft).

  10. Install the following components to the front output shaft:
  11. 6.1. The front output yoke
    6.2. The rubber sealing washer
    6.3. The flat washer
    6.4. The front output yoke nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 224 N·m (165 lb ft).
