Air Cleaner and Front Intake Air Duct Replacement SOHC

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 873348  Size: SH
  1. Open the clamp at the throttle body.
  2. Disconnect the fresh air hose at the air duct.
  3. Remove the air cleaner housing cover and air duct.
  4. Important:  Removing this assembly provides access to the EGR valve, coolant sensors, fuel rail, fuel lines and regulator, fuel system Schrader® valve, upper starter bolt, canister purge solenoid, ignition module, and PRNDL switch.

  5. Disconnect the electrical connector at the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
  6. Remove the plastic fastener at the top of the resonator and remove the resonator.
  7. Remove the three air box fasteners and remove the assembly.
  8. Inspect the assembly for cracks or damage. A damaged assembly can cause noise. Replace if cracked or damaged. The air box has a hole in the bottom for water drainage. The hole must be free of debris.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the air box assembly and assembly attaching screws.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten all the air cleaner/resonator attachment bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  3. Connect the electrical connector at the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
  4. Install the resonator. Insert the end of the resonator into the air box assembly opening.
  5. Install the resonator push in plastic fastener.
  6. Install the air cleaner tube and air box cover. Attach the air box clips and install the clamp at the throttle body.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the throttle body clamp to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Connect the fresh air hose to the cam cover.

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the clamp at the throttle body.
  2. Disconnect the fresh air hose at the air duct.
  3. Remove the air cleaner housing cover and air duct.
  4. Important:  Removing this assembly provides access to the EGR valve, coolant sensors, fuel rail, fuel line, fuel system Schrader® valve, upper starter bolt, canister purge solenoid, ignition module, and PRNDL switch.

  5. Disconnect the electrical connector at the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
  6. Remove the plastic fastener at the top of the resonator and remove the resonator.
  7. Remove the three air box fasteners and remove the assembly.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the air box assembly and assembly attaching screws.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten all the air cleaner/resonator attachment bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  3. Connect the electrical connector at the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
  4. Install the resonator. Insert the end of the resonator into the air box assembly opening.
  5. Install the resonator push in plastic fastener.
  6. Install the air cleaner tube and air box cover. Attach the air box clips and close the clamp at the throttle body.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the throttle body clamp to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
