- Install the input and output bearing snap rings in the case.
- Expand the snap rings with snap ring pliers and slide input and output
bearings into bearing bores. Snap ring grooves on bearings should be UP on output
shaft and DOWN on input shaft.
- If a new case is being installed or if the filter bypass valve was removed for
any reason, install a new valve into case using a socket with the same outer diameter
as the bypass valve.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the filter tube if removed or if a new case is being installed.
Tighten
Tighten the transaxle filter tube to 31 N·m (23 lb ft).
- Install the manual shift shaft oil seal using a bolt, nut and washer that will
not damage the bore.
- Install the reverse idler gear spacer O-ring onto one end of the reverse idler
shaft.
- Lube and install the reverse idler gear bearing.
- Install the reverse idler gear spacer O-ring on opposite end of shaft.
Important: Chamfer side of gear goes toward rear of case.
- Install the reverse idler gear into the case.
Important: Apply petroleum jelly on the case and O-rings and install the shaft using a
twisting motion.
- Lube the reverse idler gear spacers O-rings and install shaft through gear into
case. Use a twisting motion and make sure the O-ring stays in position. The end of
the shaft with the flat should be up.
Important: A bolt may be used to pull the pins into position.
Important: Clean and lubricate fasteners with Saturn Transaxle Fluid. Wipe off excess fluid
and install.
- Install the case-to-end cover dowel pins, if necessary.
Tighten
Tighten the case-to-end cover dowel pins to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
