Driver or Passenger Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement SL2, SW2

Removal Procedure

Important: LHD shown, RHD similar.

  1. Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .
  2. Remove the recliner handle.
  3. On the driver's side only, rotate the riser knob to lower the seat cushion and remove the riser knob.
  4. Remove the seat adjusters side cover.

  6. Remove the recliner lever and the nylon spacer.

  8. On the driver's seats, remove the lumbar knob assembly.
  9. 6.1. Remove the lumbar knob retaining clip.
    6.2. Remove the lumbar knob by pulling.
    6.3. Remove the lumbar actuator fasteners.

  10. Remove the lumbar actuator cable assembly by pushing rearward.
  11. Thread the lumbar cable back above the riser bar to the side of the seat back.

  13. Release the seat cushion cover rear J-strip.

  15. On the passenger seats, loosen the seat adjuster bolts to assist in removal of the seat back.

  17. Remove the bolts attaching the recliner mechanisms to the adjusters.
  18. Remove the seat back assembly from the adjusters.

  20. Remove the headrest assembly.
  21. 13.1. Raise the headrest assembly to the full-up position.
    13.2. Push the headrest lever towards the rear of the vehicle.
    13.3. Pull the headrest out of the seatback.

  22. Disengage the interlock strip at the bottom of the seat back assembly. Pull the cover up to expose hog rings in foam pad. Remove hog rings and listing wires. Refer to the following:
  23. • Listing wire in seat covers
    •  Hook-and-loop fasteners

  24. Lift up the seat back cover to expose the headrest bushing retaining pins. Working from the back of the seat, remove the headrest bushing by pinching the inside ends and forcing the bushing out from inside.
  25. Continue to pull up on the cover until the cover is completely off of the seat back frame.

  27. If the pad is to be replaced, remove the hog rings attaching the pad to the frame.
  28. Remove the pad. Refer to the following:
  29. • Hog ring to attach pad to frame (1)
    • Foam pad (2)

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the seat back foam pad to the frame.

  2. Object Number: 868394  Size: SH
  3. Install the hog rings to attach the pad to the frame. Refer to the following:
  4. • Hog rings to attach pad to frame
    • Foam pad

  5. Install the seat back cover onto the seat back. Check that the cover is centered on the seat back foam pad and the frame.

  6. Object Number: 868359  Size: MH

    Important: Step 5 is a blind operation. It requires that you reach between the cover and the foam pad.

  7. Insert the listing wire from the old cover into the seat cover.
  8. Place the top of the cover listing wires (1) under the seat back pad listing wires.
  9. To secure the seat back cover to the lower seat back pad, attach the seat back cover listing wires to the seat back pad listing wires, using the new hog rings.
  10. Push down at the hook-and-loop fasteners (2) attachment to secure the seat back cover to the pads.

  12. Check the fit of the cover and pull on the cover where necessary to remove the wrinkles.
  13. Engage the interlock at the bottom of the cover. Check the position of the lumbar cable to ensure that it hangs freely from the outboard corner of the seatback.

  15. Install the headrest bushing into the seat back by aligning it into the seat back holes and pushing it in firmly until it CLICKS.
  16. Install the headrest assembly.
  17. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  18. Install the seat back assembly, with recliners and cross tube attached, to the seat adjuster.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the front seatback recliner bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  20. Install the recliner to the seat adjuster bolts.

  22. On the driver's side only, install the lumbar knob assembly.
  23. 14.1. Thread the lumbar cable between the riser bar and the seat cushion bottom towards the lumbar actuator plate.
    14.2. Align the lumbar actuator cable assembly guide with the slot in the actuator plate.
    14.3. Install the lumbar actuator fasteners.

    Tighten
    Tighten the lumbar actuator fasteners to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  24. Align the grooves on the lumbar knob with the grooves on the lumbar actuator cable assembly and push to install.
  25. Install the lumbar knob retaining clip.

  27. Wrap the seat cushion cover rear flap to cover up the recliner cross tube and engage the seat cushion cover rear J-strip to the seat cushion frame.

  28. Object Number: 866897  Size: SH
  29. On the passenger seats, tighten the seat adjuster bolts.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the front seat adjuster bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  31. Install the recliner lever and the nylon spacer.
  32. Tighten
    Tighten the recliner lever fastener to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  33. Install the seat adjusters side cover.
  34. Tighten
    Tighten the seat side cover fasteners to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  35. On the driver's side, install the riser knob.
  36. Tighten
    Tighten the seat rise knob fastener to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  37. Install the recliner handle.
  38. Tighten
    Tighten the recliner handle fastener to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  39. Install the seat into the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .
