If you press the RCL button before the ten seconds has passed, the time of day will instantly return to the display. If you press the RCL button while the vehicle is off, the back lighting of the display will light up so that it is easier to read the time of day. You may preset six AM station frequencies on the AM band. This display will show your band selection, along with the station frequency, for ten seconds before returning to display the time of day. If you press the AM/FM button while the radio is off or while the CD is playing, the radio will switch back to the last played AM or FM station without ejecting the CD.

Pressing the bottom side of the rocker button to decrease frequency by one station and tip side to increase the station frequency by one station. After you release the rocker button, the display shows the station frequency and band for ten seconds, then returns to display the time of day.

SEEK : Use the seek function to automatically proceed to the next available frequency that can be received with good sound quality. Press and hold one side of the TUNE/SEEK rocker button until a tone sounds, indicating that the seek function has been activated. The radio will begin to change station frequencies until you release the rocker button, then will stop at the next receivable station frequency. Hold the top side of the rocker button to increase the station frequency or the bottom side to decrease the station frequency. If you would like to cancel the seek function before it reaches the next receivable station, press the TUNE/SEEK rocker button in the opposite direction that it is currently seeking.

SCN (Scan): When you press the SCN button, the radio will sequentially sample all of the receivable AM or FM station frequencies with good sound quality and will pause for 5 seconds at each. To cancel the scan function, press the SCN button a second time. If a station frequency is currently being played when the scan function is cancelled, that station will continue to play. If the radio is between station frequencies when you cancel the scan function, the radio will return to the last station frequency played.

The radio will then store the six strongest AM stations or twelve strongest FM stations, starting from the lowest frequency, to each station preset button. To notify you that the station presets are now stored and ready to use, "A.SET" will appear on the display. The radio retains your originally stored stations so that they are recalled when the A.SET feature is canceled.

Cancelling Automatic Set

To cancel the A.SET feature, press and hold the AM/FM button until a tone sounds and "A.SET" no longer appears on the display. Your originally stored stations will return to your station preset buttons.

Error Messages, Probable Cause, and Solutions

Several conditions will cause errors preventing proper CD operation. These include loading a CD upside down, moisture on the CD, and a dirty or damaged CD. Moisture on the focusing mechanism internal to the CD player may also cause an error. When using your CD player, if the radio detects and error, it will let you know by either ejecting the CD or by temporarily displaying Err. If an error message appears on your display, please check the probable cause of the error to correct the problem. Following is a list of possible problems, along with the probable causes and solutions.

If the following solutions do not correct the problem, you may have a CD player failure. See your Saturn retailer or authorized service provider for service.

    • If the CD ejects upon insertion (right after loading):
First check to see if you are inserting the CD upside down. It should be inserted with the label facing upwards. Reinstall the CD label side up. If the CD still ejects when it is installed label side up, you could have a warped or cracked CD. Check the CD for problems. Avoid using any cracked or deformed CDs.
    • If the CD either skips, ejects unexpectedly, ejects immediately after load, or mutes intermittently:
Your CD may be scratched, dirty, or have pinholes. Clean the CD using the instructions at the end of the audio section titled Cleaning a Compact Disc. Once the CD is cleaned, check both sides of it for scratches, dirt, or pinholes. If the CD is damaged or scratched, please avoid using it.
    • If the CD will not play:
It could be result of condensation inside the CD player. The moisture must be dried before the CD player will operate. Turning on your Saturn climate control system may help speed up this process. It may take an hour before the CD player will operate again. (Condensation occurs for the same reason that eyeglasses fog up when someone walks from the cold outside weather to a warm rook during the winter.)
    • If the CD skips or mutes periodically:
Check the road conditions. Skipping can result from momentary vibration from a snowy or rough road or from the joints on a highway. If the road is fine, check your CD for dirt, scratches, or pinholes.
    • If the same selection on the CD is played repeatedly:
Your repeat function may be on. Turn off the repeat function by pressing the RPT button.
    • If your radio display shows Err then switches to the previous mode of operation:
Check to see if a CD is stuck in the CD player.
    • CDs not appropriate to use:
Your CD player was designed to be compatible with round digital audio CDs with the Compact Disc Digital Audio label. Other CDs may be incompatible, causing a no-play condition, ERR shown on the radio display or a jam in the loading mechanism. Some incompatible CD types are:
       - Special shaped CDs (any that are not round)
       - Re-writeable CDs (CD-RW)
       - Library CDs (with the thick bar coded labels)
