The wiring circuits in your vehicle are protected from short circuits by fuses. This greatly reduces the chance of circuit overload and fires caused by electrical problems.
There are two fuse blocks in your Saturn vehicle -- the "underhood fuse block" and the "instrument panel fuse block." These fuse blocks are used to identify and check fuses and relays. Refer to the Fuse and Relay Usage Chart inside the fuse panel cover to identify the fuses and relays.
The instrument panel fuse block is located near the passenger's left leg. To remove the fuse panel cover and access the fuses and relays, loosen the screw on the cover and remove the cover.
Refer to the Fuse and Relay Usage Chart on the inside of the fuse panel cover to identify the fuses and relays.
The underhood fuse block is located in the forward part of the engine compartment near the battery. Six spare minifuses and a fuse-puller are located in the fuse block.
To identify and check fuses and relays, refer to the Fuse and relay Usage Chart. To remove a fuse, place the wide end of the fuse puller over the plastic end of the fuse. Squeeze the ends over the fuse and pull the fuse straight out. Do not wiggle or pry fuse out.
Check the fuse by looking at the silver-colored band inside the fuse. If the band is broken or melted, replace the fuse. Be sure you replace a bad fuse with a new one of the same amperage.
You can use a spare minifuse from the underhood fuse block to replace a bad minifuse in either the underhood or instrument panel fuse dlock. Remember to replace spare fuses as they are used as soon as you can.
The following chart lists the maxifuses, located in the underhood fuse block, and the minifuses or the system they control.
Note: A label is provided on the fuse block cover for fuse layout.
