Service and Parts Info for SDM and Side Impact Sensors

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide updated sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) and side impact sensors service procedures and part numbers.

When servicing the SDM and/or side impact sensors, the following procedures must be followed:

After SDM replacement, the body control module (BCM) may need to be reprogrammed to recognize the new SDM part number.

Important: If the BCM is not reprogrammed to recognize the new SDM, the Air Bag telltale will be ON and DTC B1001 will be set.

Additional Information for Side Air Bag-Equipped Vehicles (RPO ASF)

Important: If the new service part numbers are used with part numbers that are different from the ones listed in the Parts Requirements section of this bulletin, the SDM will not recognize the side impact sensor(s) and will turn ON the Air Bag telltale. Also, DTC B0079 and/or B0081 will be set.

If the SDM with the new service part number is a different part number from the one you are replacing, both of the side impact sensors must be replaced with the corresponding part numbers listed below. This is required because the new service SDM is programmed to recognize these specific side impact sensors. The SDM cannot be programmed to accept previous side impact sensor(s) part numbers. The BCM will also need to be reprogrammed to recognize the new SDM part number as indicated above.
