Purpose
This bulletin provides technical information on changes to the:
| • | Torque converter housing |
| • | Oil pump wear plate |
Important: In this bulletin, the new torque converter housings and oil pump wear plates will be referred to as second design. The previous design torque converter housings and oil pump wear plates will be referred to as design.
A running change was made to the torque converter housing and oil pump wear plate during 1996 model year. Both the first and second design torque converter housings and oil pump wear plates were installed on vehicles during 1996 model production. For 1997 vehicles, only the second design torque converter housing and oil pump wear plates are installed in vehicles.
The two illustrations at the top of this page, illustrate the difference between the first and second design torque converter housings. The illustration below, illustrates the differences between the first and second design oil pump wear plates.
Important: The second design oil pump wear plate can be used with both first and second design torque converter housings. The first design oil pump wear plate can only be used with a first design torque converter housing.
| • | A service Torque Converter housing Kit (P/N 21005943) has been released for servicing 1992 - 1996 vehicles. This kit contains a second design oil pump wear plate and a first second design converter housing. |
| • | When servicing the transaxle oil pump on a 1992-1995 vehicle, the automatic transaxle oil pump assembly (P/N 21003133), which contains a 1st design oil pump wear plate should be used. |
| • | When servicing the transaxle oil pump on a 1996 - 1997 vehicles, the automatic transaxle oil pump assembly (P/N 21003328) is required. This oil pump assembly contains a second design oil pump wear plate. |
Vehicles built in the 1997 model year have the second design torque converter housing and oil pump wear plate and do not require the torque converter housing kit, if the torque converter housing is being replaced.
