New Design A/C Compressor

| Models: | 1998 Saturns equipped with Air Conditioning (RPO code C60) built between and including WZ123909 through WZ136994 and WZ140281 through WZ141137. |
Purpose:
The "1998 HVAC Service Manual" provides information on a new design A/C compressor. This new design A/C compressor is used on all 1998 vehicles, except for those noted above under Models Affected. The vehicles noted above under Models Affected were built with the previous design A/C compressor used in previous model year vehicles.
Important: For purposes of this bulletin, the new design A/C compressor is identified as the second design; the previous design A/C compressor is identified as the first design.
The differences between the first and second design A/C compressors are:
| • | On the second design A/C compressor, the electrical connector (1) is integral to the clutch assembly (2). The first design A/C compressor had the electrical connector on a pigtail (3). |
| • | The second A/C compressor has an indentation (4) to accommodate the new integrated electrical connector on the clutch assembly. The first design A/C compressor did not require this indentation. |
| Except for the two differences noted above, there is no difference in servicing the two different A/C compressors. If necessary, refer to the "!997 HVAC Service Manual" for 1998 vehicles built with the first design A/C compressor. |
| Important: When servicing the A/C clutch, inspect the compressor for first or second design and replace with the clutch for that particular design. The clutch and compressor cannot be interchanged between the two different designs. However, the second design compressor assembly will service 1994-1998 vehicles. |
