Sizzling or Hissing Type Noise After A/C Use

Subject:Sizzling or Hissing Type Noise After A/C Use (Install HVAC Module Drain Hose and Clamp)

Models:1991 - 2000 S-Series Saturn Vehicles



Condition

Some customers may comment of a sizzling or hissing type noise when the vehicle is parked after the A/C has been used.

Cause

The condensation made by using the A/C, drains out of HVAC module and runs onto the hot exhaust pipe causing a sizzling or hissing type noise.

Correction

Install the HVAC module drain hose and clamp using the procedure in this bulletin.

Procedure

Caution:  Make sure vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned on the hoist. To help avoid personal injury, provide additional support to opposite end of the vehicle that components are removed from.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. From the bottom side of the vehicle, install the HVAC module drain hose and clamp (included in kit) on the outlet drain of the HVAC module.

  3. Object Number: 880656  Size: SH
  4. For LHD vehicles, route the end of the drain hose to the right side of the vehicle away from the exhaust as far as possible.
  5. Install the wiring harness strap (included in kit) to the HVAC module drain hose and one power steering hose.

  6. Object Number: 880651  Size: SH
  7. For RHD vehicles, route end of the drain hose to the left side of the vehicle away from the exhaust as far as possible.
  8. Install the wiring harness strap (included in kit) to small line on the power steering rack.
  9. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
  10. Function the A/C with the vehicle running for a short period of time.
  11. Turn the engine Off and verify the repair.
