Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.
Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.
Notice: There is a first design and second design of brake pipe flare for the hydraulic
brake pipes and system components used on this vehicle. Do NOT mis-match flare types.
If the flare types are mis-matched, damage to the pipes and/or components, and/or
a brake fluid leak may occur.
• | First design, ISO flare (1) |
• | Second design, double inverted flare (2) |
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Release the wheel speed sensor wire harness retainers and harness from
the front brake hose.
- Clean all dirt and foreign material from the
brake hose ends and the brake pipe fitting.
- Using a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe
fitting from the brake hose. Cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end and the brake
hose end to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
- Release the retaining clip from the brake hose mounting bracket and the
brake hose.
- Remove the brake hose-to-caliper bolt from the
brake caliper.
- Remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolt.
- Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
- Remove and discard the copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may
be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
- Cap or plug the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose to prevent
fluid loss and contamination.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the caps or plugs from the opening
in the brake caliper and the brake hose.
Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.
- Assemble the NEW copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt, to
the brake hose.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the brake hose-to-brake caliper bolt to the brake caliper.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 44 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Install the front brake hose bracket retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Remove the caps or plugs from the brake pipe
fitting end and the brake hose end.
- Using a backup wrench on the hose fitting, connect the brake pipe
fitting at the front brake hose.
Tighten
Tighten the fitting to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).
- Install the brake hose retaining clip to the brake hose and the brake
hose mounting bracket.
- Connect the wheel speed sensor wire harness and harness retainers to the
front brake hose.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension.
Check the hose in extreme right and extreme left turn conditions. If the hose
makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
- Lower the vehicle.
