Removal Procedure

    Caution: Do not touch the cooling fan. Serious personal injury may result.

    Important: All shifter cable and park lock cable clips are one time usage only. Any service repair requiring cables to be disconnected from the transaxle control cable bracket or shifter assembly will require a cable clip replacement.

    Important: Record all pre-set radio stations.

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. 1.1. Remove the battery cover.
    1.2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    1.3. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
    1.4. Loosen the battery hold-down screw and remove the battery.
  3. Remove the battery cooling box. Refer to Battery Box Replacement removal procedure in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the battery tray bracket.
  5. Loosen the battery tray bracket screws and remove the bracket.

    Notice: The control cable must be disconnected from the transaxle range switch lever prior to disconnecting it from the control cable bracket. Otherwise damage to the manual shift shaft may result, requiring transaxle disassembly.

  7. Disconnect the control cable from the transaxle range switch lever.

  9. Depress the control cable retainer clip tabs and remove the cable from the control cable bracket. Discard the clip.

  11. Remove the control cable bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 945418  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the control cable bracket and bolts.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the control cable bracket bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  3. Route the control cable thru the cable bracket.

  5. Secure the cable to the bracket with a new control cable retainer clip. An audible snap will be heard when properly intalled.
  6. Snap the cable end fitting onto the ball stud of the transaxle range switch lever.

  7. Object Number: 951487  Size: SH
  8. Install the battery tray bracket.
  9. Position the battery tray bracket and install and tighten the screws.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the battery tray bracket screws to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  11. Install the battery cooling box. Refer to Battery Box Replacement installation procedure located in Engine Electrical.

  13. Install the battery.
  14. 8.1. Insert the battery and tighten the battery hold-down screw.

    Tighten
    Tighten the battery hold-down screw to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

    8.2. Connect the positive battery cable to the battery.

    Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    8.3. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.

    Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    8.4. Install the battery cooling box cover and install and tighten the screws.

    Tighten
    Tighten the battery cooling box cover screws to 2 N·m (1.5 lb ft).

  15. Reprogram the radio stations.
