Inspect the following components for wear and/or damage:

    • Inspect the propeller shafts for dents, damage, missing weights, and undercoating.
    • Inspect the propeller shaft constant velocity joints for wear and/or damage.
    • Inspect the propeller shaft for damaged or worn universal joints.
    • Inspect the center bearing for damage, worn rubber, and/or looseness.
    • Inspect the rear differential carrier assembly mounts for damaged or worn rubber, and/or looseness.

Are any of the components listed worn or damaged?

Go to Step 6

Replace the worn, damaged or missing components. Refer to the appropriate procedure(s).

    •  Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft
    •  Universal Joint Replacement - External Snap Ring in Propeller Shaft
    •  Center Bearing Cleaning and Inspection in Propeller Shaft.
    •  Differential Carrier Assembly Mount Replacement in Rear Drive Axle
    •  Differential Housing Support Bushing Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.

Did you complete the replacement?

Attempt to duplicate the vibration in the stall. Refer to Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Non-Torque Sensitive)

  1. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  2. Perform the Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Torque Sensitive) .

Is the vibration still present?

Was the vibration most evident under the rear of the transfer case?

Measure the runout of the transfer case output flange. Refer to Transfer Case Output Flange Runout Measurement .

Does the runout measurement require that the transfer case output flange be replaced?

  1. Replace the transfer case output flange. Refer to Pinion Oil Seal Replacement in Transfer Case - NVG 900.
  2. Perform the Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Non-Torque Sensitive) .

Is the vibration still present?

  1. Inspect the engine mounts for the following:
  2. • Loose and/or missing fasteners
    • Improper alignment
    • Cracked, dry-rotted, and/or oil-soaked insulators
    • Twisted, broken, torn, and/or collapsed insulators
    • Bent, twisted, and/or deformed brackets
  3. Replace powertrain mounts as necessary. Refer to the following procedures:

    •  Powertrain Mount Balance - Lower Mount in Engine Mechanical - 2.2L (L61)
    •  Engine Mount Bracket Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 2.2L (L61)

    •  Engine Mount Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.0L (L81)
    •  Transmission Front Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - AF33-5
    •  Transmission Rear Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - AF33-5
    •  Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - AF33-5
    •  Transmission Mount Replacement - Side in Automatic Transaxle - AF33-5
    •  Transmission Front Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission - VT25-E
    •  Transmission Rear Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission - VT25-E

Perform the Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Non-Torque Sensitive) .

Is the vibration still present?

Inspect the condition of the rear drive module (RDM) input flange for the following conditions:

    • Missing and/or broken fasteners
    • Looseness at the RDM input flange
    • Bent RDM input flange
    • Damaged RDM input flange

Did the inspection indicate the RDM input flange required repair or replacement?

  1. Repair or replace the pinion flange. Refer to Drive Pinion Flange/Yoke and/or Oil Seal Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  2. Perform the Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Non-Torque Sensitive) .

Was the vibration reduced or eliminated?

  1. Replace the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  2. Perform the Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Non-Torque Sensitive) .

Was the vibration reduced or eliminated?

Re-index the propeller shaft. Perform the following steps:

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Mark the position of the propeller shaft on both the transfer case output shaft flange and the RDM input flange.
  3. Remove the propeller shaft.
  4. Rotate the propeller shaft 180 degrees to both of the flanges.
  5. Reinstall the propeller shaft.
  6. Attempt to duplicate the vibration in the stall. Refer to the Vibration in Service-Stall Test (Non-Torque Sensitive) .

Was the vibration reduced or eliminated?

Return the propeller shaft to it's original position and balance the propeller shaft. Refer to Driveline System Balance Adjustment .

Were you able to balance the driveline system?

  1. Install or connect any components that were removed or disconnected during diagnosis.
  2. Perform the Vibration Analysis - Road Testing table. Refer to Vibration Analysis - Road Testing .
