The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Creak, Squeak or rubbing noise from the left front strut area while turning. A new upper strut mount design was implemented into production on the 2006 VUE on 2/8/06 (VIN 6S862856). Soon after this production start date, a creak, squeak or rubbing noise was found to be generated by an interference between this upper strut mount and body seam sealer within the strut tower. This seam was changed on 3/17/06 to eliminate this interference.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Remove excess sealer from within strut tower to allow for 6mm clearance to the spring and bearing. Excess sealer may be removed using a utility knife. DO NOT scratch the elpo coating on steel parts when removing excess sealer.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
