Important: To ensure that all sediment within the transaxle is suspended in the fluid, the fluid should only be drained after it has reached a normal operating temperature of 88-93°C (190-200°F). Normal operating
temperature is reached after approximately 25 km (15 miles) of highway driving.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
Caution: The transaxle fluid is hot. Caution must be taken to prevent personal injury
when the transaxle fluid drains from the transaxle.
- Remove the transaxle drain plug (3) and allow the transaxle to drain completely.
- Remove the fluid level check plug (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Clean and install the transaxle drain plug (3).
Tighten
Tighten the transaxle drain plug to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the fluid fill cap (1).
- Add manual transmission and transfer case fluid G/M P/N 88861800 (Canadian P/N 88861801) until it seeps out of the fluid level check plug hole.
- Install the fluid fill cap (1).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Clean and install the fluid level check plug (2).
Tighten
Tighten the fluid level check plug to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle and verify proper operation.
