Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection 2.2L (L61) and 3.5L (L66)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
- Record all of the customer's radio station presets.
- Turn off all the lamps and accessories.
- Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
- Remove the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt from the battery.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Important: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and the battery cable end.
- Install the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt to the battery.
Tighten
Tighten the battery terminal bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Program all of the customer's radio station presets and set the radio clock to the current time.
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection 2.4L (LAT)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
- Turn on the radio and record all of the customer's radio station presets.
- Ensure that all lamps and accessories are turned off.
- Ensure that the ignition switch is in the OFF position, and remove the ignition key.
- Open the hood.
- Remove the generator battery control module cover. Refer to
Generator Control Module Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the 36 volt positive battery cable clip (4) from the engine control module (ECM) bracket.
Important: It is not necessary to disconnect the engine wiring harness and the body wiring harness electrical connectors from the ECM prior to repositioning. It is also not necessary to remove the ECM from the bracket prior to repositioning.
- Insert a flat bladed tool in front of the ECM (2) and bracket (1), disengage the retainer and slide the bracket (1) forward. Reposition and secure the ECM (w/bracket) out of the way.
- Loosen the negative battery cable terminal nut (1).
- Remove the negative battery cable (2) from the battery.
Installation Procedure
Important: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and the battery cable end.
- Install the negative battery cable (2) to the battery.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Tighten the negative battery cable terminal nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 7 N·m (62 lb in).
- Unsecure and position the ECM (w/bracket) to the battery hold down retainer. Align the side tabs and slide
the bracket (1) rearward.
- Install the 36 volt positive battery cable clip (4) to the ECM bracket.
- Install the generator battery control module cover. Refer to
Generator Control Module Cover Replacement
.
- Close the hood.
- Insert the ignition key and turn the key to the ON position.
- Program all of the customer's radio station presets and set the radio clock to the current time.
