Subject: | Rattle or Knock Noise On Left Turns Or On Rough Roads |
Models: | 2007 Saturn VUE 4 CYL Engine L61 or LAT |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
There is a underbody rattle in left hand turns - exhaust groundout. This noise may also be heard as an underbody knock noise when driving over a rough road surface. This noise may be reproduced when the engine is running, foot on the brake, Vehicle in reverse, and the A/C on. This can be caused by the front exhaust take-down pipe making contact with the elbow portion of the underbody hanger. This is the exhaust hanger just behind the catalytic converter
Inspect the front exhaust pipe for contacting the exhaust hanger just behind the catalytic converter. If the front exhaust pipe is contacting or there are witness marks of contacting the exhaust hanger, replace the front exhaust take-down pipe. Do not try to bend the exhaust hanger.
Please reference this PI number on the repair order.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
