PQC Restriction - Generators - 10396863 96673483 96673482 25815839 - keywords alternator battery charge charging indicator inoperative intermittent lamp light

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

As of 7/16/08 the Generator will be placed on restriction through the PQC as part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts to assist Engineering with product concern identification. Your cooperation with this program is greatly appreciated.

The following Generators are on restriction:

PN 10396863 Applies to 2008 - 2009 CTS w/LPI, LLT, or LY7

PN 96673483 Applies to 2008 - 2009 AURA, Malibu w/LY7 (all), 2008 - 09 VUE w/LY7 (CA & MX only)

PN 96673482 Applies to 2008 - 2009 VUE w/LZ4 (CA & MX only)

PN 25815839 Applies to 2007 - 2008 Acadia, Enclave, OUTLOOK w/LY7, 2009 Acadia, Enclave, Traverse, OUTLOOK w/LLT

If diagnostics have led you to replacement of the Generator, please contact the PQC at 866-654-7654 with the following completed questionnaire.

Important: Please complete the questionnaire below before calling the PQC.

1. Using a DVOM what is the battery voltage with the engine off?
2. Using a DVOM what is the battery voltage with the engine running?
3. Using a DVOM what is the battery voltage at the generator battery post with the engine running?
4. Connect a carbon pile tester to the battery, and then apply a 100 amp electrical load. What is the maximum generator output? This test needs to be done at room temperature, and the battery is at least 13 volts?
5. Using the Tech 2 command the generator duty cycle to 100%, 11% and then 89%, What is the battery voltage at the generator battery post?

Note: Please be aware that the battery voltage must be within 0.5 volts of the generator or else the output voltage at the generator B+ post will be reduced.

6. Have all the electrical connections at the generator been checked?
7. What SI document(s) have been used? Doc ID number(s) __________________
8. Document each step of the trouble chart. (Include all DVOM readings/comments)

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
