DTC Descriptor

DTC C0565 5A: Vehicle Identification Number Not Plausible

Circuit/System Description

The power steering control moduleĀ (PSCM) compares the VIN stored in EEPROM with the VIN provided via the serial data circuit by the body control module (BCM). If the PSCM is replaced, the VIN needs to be copied from the existing PSCM over to the new PSCM using the SPS EPS Setup Procedure.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The PSCM compares the VIN stored in EEPROM with the VIN provided over GMLAN serial data by the BCM.

Actions Taken When DTC Sets

    • DTC C0545 is stored in memory.
    • The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE POWER STEERING warning message.
    • No steering assist.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC will clear on the next malfunction free ignition cycle.
    • A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify that DTC C0565 5A is not set.
  2. If the DTC is set, replace the steering gear. If the DTC resets, replace the PSCM.
