Makes 🢒 Saturn 🢒 2002 🢒 VUE - FWD 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Controls - 3.0L (L81) 🢒 Knock Sensor 1 Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Record preset radio stations.
  2. Turn ignition OFF.
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  4. Disconnect knock sensor 1 harness connector.

    5. Object Number: 894336 Size: SH
  5. Release accessory drive belt from generator pulley and automatic tensioner pulley.

    6. Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  6. Raise the vehicle.
  7. Remove right side front splash shield push pins and remove splash shield.

  8. Remove belt tensioner bolts and remove belt tensioner.
  9. Disconnect generator L-terminal harness connector.

  10. Remove generator charging terminal wire (orange wire).

  11. Remove generator bolts and move generator enough to access knock sensor 1 wire.

    12. Important:  Note knock sensor 1 wire routing before removing sensor.

  12. Remove knock sensor 1 bolt and knock sensor 1 from attachment clips, and then remove knock sensor 1.

Installation Procedure
  1. Route knock sensor by placing harness behind generator bracket and attach knock sensor 1 wire to attachment clips.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install knock sensor between the 2 and 3 o'clock position and install attachment bolt.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the knock sensor bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Install generator and attachment bolts.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  4. Install generator charging post terminal (orange wire) and attachment nut.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the generator charging post terminal nut to to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Connect generator L-terminal harness connector. Push connector in until the lock position is felt, then pull back to confirm engagement.

  6. Install belt tensioner and attachment bolts.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the belt tensioner bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  7. Install front splash shield and install push pins.
  8. Lower vehicle.
  9. Connect knock sensor 1 harness connector. Push connector in until the lock position is felt, then pull back to confirm engagement.

    10. Object Number: 894336 Size: SH
  10. Install drive belt.
  11. Connect negative battery cable to battery.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  12. Reprogram preset radio stations and set clock to correct time.
