A cassette tape player is not cleaned regularly (after every 30 hours of play) my reduce sound quality or damage the cassette tape or tape player.

Note: The CLEAN counter is reset to zero each time the battery power is disconnected. You may need to clean the cassette tape head to ensure quality sound from your cassette tape player.

Tapes that are not properly stored in their plastic cases away from contaminants, direct sunlight, and extreme heat may not operate properly and could cause premature failure of the cassette tape payer. Always verify that the tape is in good condition and that it is no longer than 90 minutes (45 minutes on each side). Tapes that are linger than 90 minutes are so thin that they may not work in this cassette tape player.

Cassette Tape Head Cleaning

After 30 hours of cassette tape playing, the display will tell you that it is time to "CLEAN" the cassette tape head. The cassette tape player will still play tapes, but you should clean it as soon as possible to prevent damage to the tape and player. Regular cleaning of the cassette tape player will help prevent the buildup of oxides and other contaminates that can cause reduced sound quality or damage to your cassette tapes or player.

To properly clean your cassette tape player, you should use a swiping-action, no-abrasive cleaning cassette. Follow the directions on the cleaning cassette.

After cleaning your cassette tape player head, the "CLEAN" indicator will need to be reset so that the radio can inform you when the cassette tape player needs to be cleaned again. The following direction explaining how to reset the "CLEAN" indicator:

    • Make sure that a cassette tape is in the tape player and that you are in cassette tape player mode.
    • Press and hold the EJ (Cassette Tape Eject) button for five seconds.
    • The "CLEAN" indicator will no longer be illuminated on the display.

CD Adapter Kits

It is possible to use a CD adapter kit with your cassette tape player. Insert the adapter as you would insert a normal tape and the adapter cassette should begin playing like a normal tape was inserted. The display and radio buttons will function the same as if a normal tape was inserted.

If the adapter cassette won't play, press the SIDE button (Station Frequency Preset Button 3) to reverse the side of adapter cassette. If the adapter cassette still won't play, refer to the directions that came with the CD adapter.
