CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that the foam gasket material used to seal off the exterior door panel openings is protruding out from behind the handle base when the door handle is in the closed position. Customers may also comment that the gasket material is torn, out of place or missing.
CAUSE:
The gasket profile height is too tall and the gasket material does not offer good sliding capability to overcome the friction produced when the handle is installed over the handle pivot mounting pins. This may cause the gasket material to tear and/or move out of place.
CORRECTION:
Replace all outside door handles with new handle (P/N 22711724), which has a gasket that is smoother and thinner than the previous outside door handle gasket design. Refer to the service procedure in this bulletin to replace outside door handles.
Front or Rear Outside Door Handle
- Lift door handle and remove push pin.
- Slide door handle rearward to remove it from pivot assembly.
- Slide new door handle (P/N 22711724) forward onto pivot assembly.
- Lift door handle and install push pin.
