Condition:

Some customers may comment on noise from the steering column and/or noise from behind the steering wheel while turning the steering wheel.

Cause:

The SIR coil assembly steering wheel restraint module internal ribbon wire may rub on the backing material, causing a squeaking noise.

Correction:

Vehicles built up to and including VIN 3S865013 will require a new Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Coil Assembly (Roll Connector) to correct the noise.

Service Procedure

  4. Install new Roll Connector. Refer to "Roll Connector (Coil Assembly) -- Installation" procedure in the 2002-2003 Saturn VUE Chassis Service Manual, Vol. I.
